The Illinois cosmetology license requirements. Illinois Cosmetology License Requirements
Must be at least 16 years of age and must have at least 8th grade education with a high school diploma or equivalent, or take the Ability to Benefit test.

Illinois Beauty School Hours
Cosmetologist License: 1500 Hours
Barber License: 1500 Hours
Esthetician License: 750 Hours
Nail Technician License: 350 Hours
Electrologist License: 600 Hours
Massage Therapist License: 500 Hours
Hair Braider License: 300 Hours

Illinois Cosmetology License Renewal
Illinois barber licenses and barber teacher licenses expire on July 31 of each odd numbered year. Licensees may renew within the month prior to expiration. Cosmetology instructors, cosmetology clinic teachers and cosmetology licenses expire on September 30 of each even numbered year. Illinois requires cosmetologists to certify on their renewal applications showing they have completed 14 hours of cosmetology continuing education within the 2 year licensure period.

Cosmetology instructors and cosmetology clinic teachers must show a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education from a sponsor registered in the division within the 2 year licensure period.

Illinois Cosmetology License Reciprocity (Change or Transfer)
You need to show an official certification of licensure from the Illinois board of cosmetology showing your home state where you are currently licensed and practicing to transfer your license to Illinois. If the license is not the original copy it then has to include the original issuance date, expiration date, legal name, cosmetologist license number, brief description of any licensing exams taken, the grades received and whether you have any disciplinary actions taken or pending against your cosmetology license.
